1. It was free to send e-mail last year, why the change?

The reason we decided to change the way you e-mail your campers is because last year, for the first time, we really pushed the idea to parents to e-mail their campers, and THEY LISTENED. While that was what we were hoping for, we found that the sheer volume of e-mails we received was more than we could keep track of at times. The beauty of this system for us as a camp is that Bunk1 does all the work for us. Their automated system sorts the e-mails you send each day, and then at the time of our choosing we receive ONE e-mail with all the letters pre-sorted by cabin and in alphabetical order. We want to continue having parents communicate with their campers, but for our own sake, we had to do something different.

2. How much does it cost?

In order to send an e-mail, you buy credits. Each credit costs one dollar. You can buy various packages, so if an aunt or a grandma wants to send Johnny an e-mail, they can too!

3. How is it different from regular e-mail?

There are several features that we considered very valuable when we made the choice to switch to Bunk1. The first is that when you send e-mails, you can make them look more like postcards than regular text e-mails. Who wouldn't want pictures and soccer balls included in their e-mail from mom? The other factor is that it is a secure system. We like knowing that your e-mails are taken care of well. Bunk1 works with literally hundreds, maybe thousands of camps in the U.S. and they have a fine tuned machine that keeps all those e-mails headed to the right place.

4. When do my campers receive their mail?

Your campers will receive their mail at dinner time each day. E-mails sent after 4 PM will be delivered to your camper the following day.

5. Does this allow my camper to send ME mail?

YES! This is an amazing feature that would never be possible with regular e-mail. As part of their system, before your camper leaves for camp you can print off a sheet (or sheets) of paper that will have a barcode on it. Your camper can hand-write you a letter, which we then take and fax back to a 1-800 number that Bunk1 provides us. Once they get that fax, it automatically scans the e-mail, reads the barcode (which is linked to your e-mail address) and automatically sends an e-mail containing the letter your child wrote! AMAZING!

6. Can I still send regular mail?

Yes. Regular mail will be delivered at the same time at has always been, at dinner time.

7. What if I send an e-mail to the e-mail address used in previous years? Will my camper receive it?

No. The previous e-mail address has been deleted, and beyond that we are contractually obligated by Bunk1 to not allow e-mails to be delivered to any camper that do not come through their system.
